Obama Loves Your Mama by Arturo - October 2017 Scholarship Essay

There are many presidents that made a difference, just as there are many presidents that did not make any difference during their term, and there are also many presidents that just made matters worse. Having the option to eat dinner with any president should be an honor, although if I had to choose which president I would want to have dinner with, it would be with the 44th president of the United States, President Barack Obama. Obama was for the people, he genuinely cared about the safety and the needs of his people. When being asked which president you would want to have dinner with, you would go for the one admire the most, who you look up to and you would obviously have a reason for. Obama is someone that I admire because of his affection for his people which was showed by creating a health that was affordable and by creating Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA).
My admiration for Obama begins with his idea of the Affordable Healthcare Act which would give health care for families who live in low incomes households. Nearly 20 million people now have health care due to the Obama’s health care act, compared to statistics in 2009 reporting that 50.3 million Americans were not insured and did not have any coverage. Now many families are able to have coverage but there are still 27 million Americans without coverage, but Obama did his best to insure so many American citizens and now there are less citizens without coverage but there is still more work to be done.
Another thing that definitely means so much to me and affects me personally would when President Obama created the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA) which grants many illegal immigrants that came into the U.S as a child protection from deportation and a working permit. There are many requirements for this act but it has insured over 800,000 immigrants to legally work here and be safe from deportation. This is something that I really do appreciate and it really shows Obama’s compassion towards all the people that live in the U.S. When talking about this topic I get very emotional due to the fact that I, myself, am a minority. I am Hispanic-American and even though I was born here, I have many family members and friends that are recipients of DACA.
Obama is a president that admire and I love the compassion he has for his people regardless of U.S citizenship or not. That is an example of a president, he was so selfless and knew how to help those in needs. When you think of a president that cared for his people, Obama is a perfect example of it. These are just a few of the reasons why Obama is the president I would decide to have dinner with. Due to the fact that he is also a minority and I can relate to him more than any other president. Obama is a president that made a difference during his terms and he is the president I would elect to have dinner with.
