Change by Ariel - January 2018 Scholarship Essay

I wish to attend college for change. I chose this word simply because I hope to change the norm for my family.
I come from a place where the majority is looking for a handout and doesn't want to actually put in the work. Where everybody is worried about how the next person views them instead of what they can offer the world.
My Family had never viewed college as a norm but more like a “Sure, why not”, since the moment I was able to fully grasp what college really was and where it could take me, I’ve been instilling it in not only myself but my family as well. I know what it means to struggle and go without and I also know what it means to have but not for a lifetime. college will be where I really began to build on my foundation to change the course of the norm aside from just finishing high school and landing a job wherever. This change includes not only seeing different things and the furthering of education but also finding a place in this world that I can help grow and flourish, leave a mark that will remind those after me that it is possible and it doesn't have to end for you at a certain point because that where mama and papa settled.
Getting accepted into the schools of my choice is one step, but actually stepping foot on campus and becoming apart of the student body is a level completed.

I now understand who I am as a being and who i’m destined to be. I have dreams and goals i’ve set forth, And i’m willing to do whatever it takes to see them through. If that means staying up late nights, researching sources in and out, volunteering wherever I can whenever I can, reaching out to people outside my immediate circle, reading things I’d never think to look at, learning new strategies ,building my skills etc, Then so be it. “I’m willing and with God I’m able”. I will take all necessary actions to see that those after me are greater than me and they know that this is the way things should be and that no it's not out of your ordinary.
