Try As Hard As You Can or Just Wing It! by Ariel - July 2016 Scholarship Essay
Having the same teacher really does make a difference in someone's life. Having an entire class period about effort was the most boring but it gave me confidence that I can make it in this world. Throughout high school, I had the same English teacher for three years and I had learned so many things from him but the most important lesson he taught me was about effort. He said and I quote "If you put in the effort you can make it but if not just wing it". Hearing these word made me laugh because why would you wing anything in life?
Those words made an effect on me because not only my teacher was a cool person but because he knew the types of struggles that African American students in Washington, DC goes through and he realizes that only effort can make a difference in someone's life if they choose to change it. I know that this is a very cliche thing that a teacher could tell students but the thing is putting effort through high school helped me graduate with a 3.0. Learning that only effort could make things happen is amazing because it takes courage and determination to succeed in anyway. Also winging any situation that you are in helps because it can show how quick you are on your feet and make quick decisions. Learning about effort is something I could always fallback on as a pick-me-up. I hope that during my college years I am able to make a bond with a professor and it allows me to learn great skill and wisdom.
