Army Nurse by Arianna - February 2019 Scholarship Essay
Since the beginning of my freshman year of high school, I have had the desire to become an Army nurse. I was influenced by two important family members in my life, my aunt and my father. I was inspired by my aunt, who was pursuing her nurse practitioner degree at the time. Whereas my dad, served twenty-two years in the United States Navy, which heavily impacted my life as a military brat. I wanted to find a career I would love and make others happy.
My aunt always talked about the satisfaction that her job gave her by helping others. This heavily impacted my own interest in wanting to join the healthcare field because I also love to help others. My senior year of high school, I successfully completed the State Testing Nursing Assistant (STNA) Certification. Participating in that program, taught me that nursing requires more than just caring for each patient and their individual needs, taking care of the ill, injured, unconscious, or pregnant patients. Nursing is passion behind caring and loving people of all ages, colors, ethnic backgrounds, genders, sexualities, and religions. I feel passionately that everyone deserves proper health care regardless of who they are, where they are from, or what they believe.
Coming from a military family background, I have experienced life from numerous perspectives. I am more open-minded and understanding, which has allowed me to befriend people from across cultures, races, religions, and ethnic backgrounds. Being exposed to diverse cultures and ways of life has given me the opportunity to see different kinds of healthcare. As an Army nurse, I want to ensure each person who I am caring for is receiving the best care possible. I would be honored to follow in my aunt and dad’s footsteps by entering the healthcare field and joining the military.
Receiving this scholarship would allow me to further my education and ultimately reach my goal of ensuring healthcare equality for all patients. I feel passionately that everyone deserves proper healthcare regardless of who they are, where they are from, or what they believe. In addition to equality, my goal as a nurse is to combat discrimination in the healthcare system. If a patient is experiencing discrimination I will remove all my personal thoughts and beliefs to defend and protect their rights. My degree is to help all my future patients civilian or military personal to the best of my ability to provide accurate care. I will be a caring, nonjudgmental, and an understanding nurse. It is also essential to be able to have good communication skills to prevent any medical errors. I can use my verbal communication and written communication methods to speak to patients to understand and ensure that they will receive the best care possible. I believe as a nurse these are all important qualities to possess and deliver as a future Army nurse. To be given the opportunity to receive this scholarship will bring me one step closer to fulfilling my dream of caring for patients around the world as a nurse.
