Ten Years From Now by Ariana - March 2025 Scholarship Essay
Ten years is a long time to grow and change, and I plan to accomplish a lot as a woman with many aspirations. Ultimately, my top goal within the next decade is to help people with chronic skin conditions by attending a university where I can study Nutrition and Dietetics, and eventually become a Dermatologist who shares my knowledge with the world.
A significant step towards treating chronic skin conditions involves thinking differently for the rest. While researching dietician programs, I came across Professor Peggy R. Borum at the University of Florida and was immediately intrigued by her work. I was inspired by her research on how micronutrients can treat and prevent refractory neurological syndromes. Her research findings made me wonder whether a specific diet can help treat patients with certain skin conditions. I plan to follow a similar path and conduct research to find new ways of solving skin conditions by thinking internally.
I have also launched a blog on skin and nutrition and plan to leverage my education and future research to help others by spreading awareness about diet and skin conditions. I initially created this blog to educate teens like myself about their skin and how to best care for it, but will expand it to a wider demographic. I plan to spread it to other social media platforms like YouTube and Instagram to enhance the depth and impact of this exciting field of study. I'll continue to expand this blog throughout undergraduate and graduate school, eventually leveraging it to help treat and alleviate the burden of living with chronic skin conditions.
So, ten years from now, I see myself finishing medical school and preparing to start my residency as a Dermatologist. I will continue growing my blog alongside my Dermatology residency to become even more skillful in performing procedures on patients. I'll build connections with my co-workers and mentors, and invite them to share their knowledge with my growing social media audience. Residency will help refine my clinical skills working with people who I strive to become. I will take those few years very seriously because I can get valuable information from my colleagues to become the best I can be.
Within the next decade, I plan to work in the lab, solve how internal health correlates to external wellbeing, grow my blog on skin conditions, and start my residency. By doing all of this, I will make an impact not only on patients but also worldwide. So ten years from now, I plan to be well on my way to accomplishing my goals and making an impact on others.
