The Pursuit of an Education by Arabhis - June 2013 Scholarship Essay

In today’s modern society, an education is an avenue to achieve success and cultivate wealth. As a college student, I consider myself to be above average because I will not accept an office job working in a cubicle for the rest of my life. I have big dreams that will lead me on an adventurous career path as a writer, world traveler, legal consultant, an artist, a poet and an entrepreneur. I am a true visionary in that I look beyond my BA in English and see myself in a multifaceted position doing everything that I love.
I am currently majoring in English with a minor in sociology. I have a strong passion for writing, and I especially love to write poetry. I eventually want to be published, with a plethora of novels and poems on my resume. Aside from that, I would like to teach as well as travel the world as an international journalist. My thirst for knowledge and my desire to learn about various cultures and societies justifies my minor in sociology. I strongly believe in becoming cultured so that I may be a better-rounded individual. That is what it takes to be a prosperous entrepreneur and young professional.
I trust in the strength of community. After all it takes a village to raise a child. Although this saying is cliché, I will continue to hold onto it as my foundation to keep me grounded while I experience life. So far, I have had many people who have helped me to get to where I am. My family, professors and friends have given me their relentless support and encouragement. This in turn allowed me to blossom and made me more determined to strive for a better life, and more importantly, to dream bigger. The college lifestyle has exposed me to an ocean of opportunities to add to my academic portfolio. I have vastly expanded my own personal knowledge while also becoming savvy on professionalism. In addition, I have attained countless mentors who have given me the tools to succeed and further elevate my status as a young scholar. This is why my education is so important to me.
Above all, I am so glad to be given this opportunity to pursue my dreams and goals. I only hope to continue to gain knowledge of the world, and discover new ways to express myself artistically. And in summary, I would like to say that the Varsity Tutors College Scholarship Contest would be a great help in lifting some of the financial burden off of my shoulders, which will allow me to focus on more liberating aspects of my education. I want to be driven in the classroom and socialized with highly conscious and like-minded people. This scholarship would be a much needed blessing.
