Love, War, and Destruction by Anya - July 2013 Scholarship Essay

The best book I had read in school would have to be The Kite Runner back in high school. This book is amazing and very admirable with the bravery of Amir, one of the main characters in this book. Proving admission to his dear father Baba is a quest he struggles with but must overcome. He uses a kite to prove that he is not unworthy and is worthy of winning the kite tournament. Through this battle he goes through many pains, such as getting beat up by Hassan; a boy who is nothing less than jealous of what he accomplishes. The treasure of bringing home the losing kite in the tournament can not only bring an accomplishment but can also bring the love that Amir needs from Baba. But, the battle is very hard living in Afghanistan now that there is a new ruler. I admire the fact that Amir has to go through all these dear battles to fight for his fathers love and belief in him. A lot of people can not go through so much battles and still with stand. This is a novel full of many lessons that us teenagers can benefit from. Also, this teaches us about what had happened in Afghanistan back in the days.
