The Journey of the Student by Anthony - December 2015 Scholarship Essay

My name is Anthony Rose I am currently a Sophomore at the University of Dayton. Majoring in Pre-med studies in order to have a chance at apply and getting accepted into medical school. To fulfill my dream of becoming a well known doctor like my father before me and his father before him.
In ten years time I hope to be standing inside my practice or hospital wearing my white coat, helping out the sick and showing compassion to those I treat. A chance to have this future is what drives me to be not just a good student, but a good person as well. In order to be successful one needs to be educated in the many aspects of life, for my case the principle understanding of the well being and function of the human body. The education I receive at the University of Dayton shows a me how to use problem solving techniques to solve problems I am given. This is great part of my education however, college alone does not does not prepare me for the interactions with patients. So in order to expand my education outside the University of Dayton I volunteer at hospitals and wellness centers. These activities teach me topics I would never have learned in a class room, in truth it actually teaches me more than a classroom setting. Volunteering at hospitals and wellness centers has given me insight to understanding how to treat other and how to talk to them. This is why volunteering at hospitals and wellness centers is so educational for me, in truth it's what is pushing me to become a doctor.
In the end my journey will be hard, but well worth it in the end. Just being able to see myself helping others is good enough for me. It brings a smile to my face that one day i will be helping make lives better, and all of my training and intuition that I receive will all be thanks to the education I have received up to that point.
