As a young Hispanic male, going to school is very important to me. None of my immediate family members have graduated from college. Most of my friends haven’t done so either. I want to break the barriers and be one of the few people I know that went to college and finished. Ever since I was little, I’ve always wanted to work in the field of health. I chose to major in nutrition. Many of my extended family members in Mexico worked in the field health. Some of them were doctors, some were nurses, and some were nutritionists. I’ve always loved food and health. So I wanted to follow the same path and help others as well. Healthy eating and wellness is important and this field is something that doesn’t get much attention. My goal is to change that.
One achievement I have made is that I created a YouTube channel dedicated to health. I’ve already posted a few videos on health, and once I graduate I will continue to educate and help others on improving their lives through heathy eating. I will also at the clinic or at the hospital. Just like the professionals, I want to help others as much as possible. My family and I weren’t the healthiest people growing up. However now that I’m older, I’m learning how to manage my health and to make sure I get as much exercise as possible. I will also do my best to improve the lives of others by means of diet and exercise. This is key to helping alleviate any problems someone might have. Diet plays an important part of everyone’s health. Too many people are on medication due to poor health. This is something that needs to be emphasized. Social media is getting larger every year. Given the fact that social media is very popular, this will be an effective way of helping others. I will take advantage of this to benefit the greater good.
Another achievement I have made is that I’ve been involved in raising awareness on issues facing the community. During my late teens and early 20s, I’ve been raising awareness on infant circumcision. I myself was circumcised at a young age, so I was curious to know more about his procedure. I believe that boys should have the right to be intact. The topic of routine infant circumcision doesn’t get discussed much. If anything, people make light of the issue and dismiss it as being important. It is also a taboo subject that people don’t discuss. However I am one of those people who isn’t ashamed of discussing it. That is why I have been a member of the non-profit group Intact America for a decade now. I have contributed to raising awareness by means of flyers, and also sharing my story to people. People have read my flyers, and have started a conversation because of it. They really helped raise awareness on this issue, and it makes me feel good.
I’m humbly asking to be chosen for the scholarship. Currently, I’m having some financial hardships like everyone else. However, school is becoming more expensive for me now. Currently I am attending two colleges, Cal Poly Pomona and Mt. San Antonio College. I am struggling to pay for tuition, and school supples are very expensive along with transportation costs. I would be thankful if I was chosen to be the recipient. No matter what the amount is, I will be grateful for any help I can get. Any dollar amount is a blessing for me right now.
