In The End by Anthony - July 2016 Scholarship Essay
“You should probably change your e-mail.”
“What, why?”
“Playmaker10_5… I mean its not the most professional.”
“But its mine.”
“Again You should really consider changing that to something more professional. Something that wont get immediately discarded.”
“Ok.”
‘Playmaker10_5’... is an email address more akin to my athletic accomplishments than to the formalism that most of the world abides by. Being a junior in high school I thought this was a more than fitting moniker, in case one wanted to get in contact with me through the web. But Ms. Reed, my Journalism teacher at that time, was more than adamant that in fact I needed to change it to something more becoming of a budding adult. And for that I am extremely thankful for. Every time I put my email down for a job application, every time I put it down for any important school document I always think of Ms. Reed and her persistence to change my email address. Now this might sound trivial, I mean it’s just an email address. But up to that point I thought this was totally fine. But often times it’s the person with the most maturity and foresight that can correct an action that it will pay off in the end. So as I said, before every time my email is required for some type of registration I always think of Ms. Reed and her words, knowing that it pays to listen someone who is trying to help you in the end.
