College students should be required to study abroad for many reasons. One reason is that students will be exposed to a culture that is different from their own. It will force the students to become more open-minded and accept others cultural values as their own. They will be faced with different cultural norms and they will have to adapt to other people around the them if they want to be successful while abroad. This will help the students in the future adapt to different norms when entering a new workplace.
Another reason, studying abroad should be mandatory for a college student is that is helps the student learn about a different economic system. Students will observe that specific country’s economic state and how it compares to the United States. This might help them become more conservative with their money when they return to the United States.
Lastly, a student studying abroad will learn many new things about their major. For example, a teacher major would learn new ways of teaching, new ideas to keep the kids interested, and more ways to expand on a subject. A teacher major would also be exposed to different things being taught. They might learn about a different way to help a kid learn math or discover a new way to teach a kid to read. Finally a student would also see how students are learned and retaining the knowledge they are being taught. Overall, studying abroad should be a necessity for every college student.
