Ideal Classroom by AnnElise - October 2014 Scholarship Essay
The ideal classroom environment for me involves variety. There are times when I like to work on my own and work in a quiet environment to get my assignments done. For example, when I need to write a paper, take a test, read a book, or work on a personal project. During times such as these I like to be in a quiet place with little to no interruptions. Also, playing classical music out loud, just not too loud, can help me to concentrate instead of being completely silent.
Group projects, though, are a totally different story. I like to be able to talk to my group freely and not feel like I need to whisper. I like to be in smaller groups, where there is enough work that no one is sitting back doing nothing and just receiving the grade from everyone else’s hard work.
On a more general basis I enjoy having a small class. Being able to know everyone in your class always makes for a more comfortable environment to me. Also, because there are less students you are able to have more one on one time with your teacher. I feel like having that ability makes it easier to learn and/or comprehend harder concepts.
Even though I know what classroom environment works for me, you should always make the best of whatever situation you’re in.
