Freshmen's First Day by Annaliese - November 2019 Scholarship Essay

While in high school students have the opportunity to change things. Depending on the different clubs and activities one is in, they can really influence others. I am a senior in high school and have lots of opportunities to make an impact on my high school and the student body. One of the ways I have positively impacted the school is by being Student Body President.
As Student Body President I’m known throughout the school. Students know who I am, I’m not just another face in the crowd. I have impacted the school by being Student Body President. Incoming freshmen always come the day before everyone else does so they aren’t suddenly thrown into chaos. Being apart of Student Council, members are asked to come and help freshmen get their footing. As Student Body President, I made sure to be there, not only because I was asked but also because I was giving a welcoming speech. I came with a smiling face hoping to make a good impression upon the new students.
I feel that I have positively impacted the school by being there on the freshman’s first day. They saw that I, a senior, cared enough to be there. I chose to spend my last day of summer at school, telling them about what their year is going to look like and survival tips. Even though I only talked with the freshmen, I think that it benefited the entire school. Freshmen are hard to handle, they don’t know the flow like everyone else. As a freshmen, upperclassmen can be hard to get along with or ask for help from. Even though they may not take me up on my offer, I let them know that I would be willing to help them whenever needed.
You don’t have to do anything grand to positively impact a school as a student. The little things, like being nice, can really make an impact. I have positively impacted my high school by being Student Body President, always there for others to talk to.
