Five years ago I would have told myself to start preparing more for the future. Being the oldest has its pros; for example, being a role model to your younger sibling or having a few privileges that require great responsibility. There are a few cons though. As the oldest child, you are like a guinea pig. No one knows how to help or prepare you for the future- especially for college.
My present self would tell middle school me to start studying for the ACT. Now, it feels as if I am running out of time. There is so much pressure. Middle school me also did not listen to upperclassmen when they said, “Time goes by fast.” It is not like I never tried while I was in middle school and even my earlier years of high school. I was, and still am, constantly studying, reading, taking notes, and practicing for standardized tests. I did not know any better back then. No one ever gave me tips.
One thing I have learned about my situation is that I cannot go back. All I can do is try my best to succeed and continue to move forwards. In a way, I am thankful I am the guinea pig. I get to help my younger brother make wise decisions.
