Becoming the One to Stand Up by Anna - March 2015 Scholarship Essay
Finding success in college may be graduating with a high GPA. However, the question is what skills are necessary to obtaining that goal? Leadership skills are crucial in college success. Leaders can be found everywhere in campus, whether they are the captain of a sports team or a president of a club. The very leaders in a group or class have the qualities in not only succeeding in college, but succeeding in life. What one learns and holds onto during college follows them into their future lives.
Leadership qualities, such as honesty, trust, communication, inspiration, intellect, and delegation, are what it takes to be the one person to stand up and take control. Not just control in the team or club, but also in the classroom, and eventually in the work force. Having the skills to encourage and communicate with others what is expected of them helps the school to function itself. Without leaders standing up, many tasks would go incomplete.
Not only can a person be a leader to others, but it takes confidence to be the leader of one's self. Continually telling one's self to keep going and having the endurance to get through classes and sports can be mentally grueling, but that will help make them through college. Learning this skill of perseverance is key in accomplishing goals. Sometimes, there will not be another person giving directions to others, and in that case, one must step up and figure it out themselves.
Anyone can be a leader, and learning how to be one now is important. Obtaining leadership skills is necessary for college life and the future.
