What Inspired Me by Anna - November 2022 Scholarship Essay

Surprisingly my inspiration comes from my young cousin, Erin. Erin is only fifteen years old and has been jumping from school to school for the past three years. Recently, my parents decided on me if we should take her in. I immediately said yes. Erin has not received the proper education she deserves these last few years. I knew this was my time to step in and get her back on track. I see myself as a student who aspires to do good in school, and now I want to be that exact role model for Erin.

The beginning of the school year was a rough patch for her and that affected not only her but me as well. Surprisingly, this pushed me to do even better in my classes, homework, and my overall attitude about school. If I could show her how these things can be done, she would learn from me and eventually become successful. Along the way, I found these outcomes to be beneficial for me. I've had positive effects on my mental health and education.

Currently, Erin has slowly been doing much better. I haven't finished my goal yet, but I know I am getting there. I've become a better student, friend, and cousin along the way of this journey. I wake up every day hoping to have a positive impact on someone's life. Lucky for me, I wake up every day with that one person in my home already. Slowly leading her to success.
