Why I'm a morning person by Anna - January 2019 Scholarship Essay
My whole life I never understood the importance of sleep until my academics
got involved. Once my grades started to fail starting my ninth year of high school,
I was ready to quit my horrendous sleeping patterns. My brain would randomly
dose off in class, and me staying up so late was not increasing my attention span
and I was not productive at all. My health to has benefited incredibly becoming
a morning person, being a night owl increased my stress rate.
When I started high school, I realized that the last-minute study session I
would have at 1:00 am would make my grade worse than sleeping at 9:30 pm
with little knowledge. It was a biology final exam I had in the ninth grade, and
the night before I stole my mom's Starbucks coffee and stayed up all night to
study last minute. I stayed up till four am studying only getting two hours of
sleep that night. Biology was the last period of class, and my brain was ready to
shut down. I walk in to take the test and did not even know what was on it
because my brain was not productive. It was at that moment I realized your
brain is an organ, and it needs rest. You cannot expect a laptop to run without a
charger or battery. Same thing applies to the brain, I fell asleep during the
whole test!
The next morning, I was ready to change my ways. I took a long nap to
refresh my brain when I got home on that day and finished all my homework
early so I could get a proper amount of sleep. Went to bed at 9:00 am and woke
up at 6:00 am a full nine hours of sleep. My morning was healthier I was
energized answered all the questions in class, and I managed to find a way to
charm my biology teacher to let me retake my test. I was the most productive
I’ve ever been making a ninety-six on my biology retake. In the morning you
are alert for the day, you shower, and brush your teeth then go to school rather
at night it’s to go to sleep.
My health has also benefited incredible I was going to the doctors
constantly, for high stress levels, and bad anxiety. Never once did I think it was
from my sleeping habits, I thought it was a e problem, but since I fixed it blood
pressure has been beyond healthy. I asked my doctor if my sleep schedule was a
factor to my stress levels. He was shocked that he did not think about that being
a scenario involving my stress. When he realized that I had only been sleeping
two to four hours a night he told me, “of course that’s the reason Anna." Me
being a morning person has increased my productivity to beyond.
