The Key to Success by Anna - September 2014 Scholarship Essay
Throughout the years as a student in Gwinnett County, I have encountered a large variety of young adults and staff members whom all acquire different characteristics. Each and every peer that has made a lasting impression on my life shared one trait in common: accountability. This is crucial to thriving in a new environment such as college because it means to hold oneself liable for his or her actions.
Without accountability, students may lack focus in the most important areas of education; time management and being prepared for class. My authorities have done a precise job of instilling accountability into my everyday routine by significantly increasing my load of responsibilities. For example, driving to school, managing a job along with homework, and participating in team sports are all activities that allow me to thrive as a young adult. I am grateful to feel a sense of preparation for the 'real world' due to countless opportunities for personal growth.
Success in college is not determined by the genes you may or may not acquire nor the university in which you attend, but solely on your personal standards. Setting goals and becoming accountable for all aspects of life are the key factors in becoming positive leaders. Failure is often blamed on life's circumstances, but truthfully, success comes to those who earn it through hard work and staying committed to humble values.
