Twenty-five Years From Now... by Anna - September 2018 Scholarship Essay

This summer I had the opportunity to volunteer at Camp Winshape, a camp sponsored by Chick-fil-A. At Winshape, a ten-year-old girl, Allison, approached me and asked about religion, specifically Jesus Christ. She explained her home life to me and how her parents did not go to church. She cried, told me she wanted a relationship with the Lord, but did not know how. I had the opportunity not only to share my beliefs with her but teach her through my own experiences. After that connection to her and various other children there, it solidified my desire to work both in education and in ministries.
In twenty-five years, I will be an elementary teacher and a world-wide traveler, opening children’s ministries.
In twenty-five years, I’m forty-one years old. I’m married with two children. During the school year, I work in an elementary school, a colorful and thematic place that I pray I make more lively each day. Each morning, I get my two girls ready with cute bows, frilly outfits, and hearty breakfasts so that they’re ready to face the day at their primary school. I go to my job at the elementary school.
I love my job as an educator. The kids always have stories to tell: they take hikes at eight in the morning, they tell tales of nearly being eaten by a bear. None of it could be true, but their imaginations--that imagination we often lose as adults--make the stories worth hearing without reprimand. Since it’s elementary school, there is still the magic of faith and belief.
In the summers, life is a bit different in my adult life. My family and I travel to Guatemala; there, along with our church group, we help build small complexes which provide places for the children to worship. The beauty of these trips is that I also get to teach: I tell tons of stories and I garner new ones to bring home and tell the kids in next year’s class.
This scholarship will grant me the ability to start these adventures as an educator and world traveler. Going to college will allow me to prepare for my future by letting me correspond with others and completing a bachelor's degree in early childhood education. I will become adept in providing children an education. This scholarship will allow me to pursue my dream in working with children and serving the Lord.
