Hard Work Pays Off by Anna - December 2016 Scholarship Essay
The school accomplishment I am most proud of is being involved in Liberty University’s dual enrollment program. Not only has this program allowed me to work toward my high school diploma from my home computer, but it has also put me on track to graduate with an Associates Degree at the age of 17. My graduation date is May of 2017.
One of the reasons I am most proud of this is because I worked hard to study and get good grades while taking classes that primarily consisted of adults. Although some of the classes were challenging, the professors were helpful and extremely encouraging.
Being involved in this program has also taught me how to properly balance and manage my time to fit all of my school work in. In addition to the college courses, I hold down a 40 hour per week job in the summer, two babysitting jobs during the school year, help my mom with my special needs sister, go on mission trips, attend a ladies Bible study, and participate in my church’s youth group. Since I am so busy, I am extremely grateful that one of the first classes Liberty had me take was on time management.
Because I am technically homeschooled, I am able to do a lot of extra-curricular activities with my youth group and my close friends. I have taken American Sign Language classes for the past four years, as well as horseback riding lessons, a photography class, a few woodshop classes, and even a class on making a bear out of alpaca fur. I also joined another homeschool group’s Biology lab just for fun.
I have learned so much throughout the year and a half that I’ve been involved in Liberty’s dual enrollment program. Not only have I grown academically, but I’ve matured spiritually as well. My faith and trust in the Lord has flourished as I learned to dig deeper in the Bible for certain assignments. Liberty’s dual enrollment program has taught me that hard work truly does pays off.
