My Greatest Academic Achivement by Anna - March 2014 Scholarship Essay

When I was eight years old my biological parents got a divorce; my biological dad received custody of me. When I lived with him, I had to provide for myself and wait for him to get up so that I could go play outside and do the things that a child should be able to do during the day. He would sleep as long as he wanted and when I tried to wake him up, he would not budge. Then after a while, my biological mom received custody of me; I was put in a worse situation with her because instead of her worrying about the bills, food to eat, and a place to live, she only carried about her cigarettes and her diet dr. pepper. This left me worrying about whether or not I was going to have food to eat, a place to stay at night, and everything else. She also did not force me to go to school. I would stay home because she did not bother waking me up orshe did not feel like taking me to school. When I did go to school, I would always be late. It got to the point to where I was put on truancy. My biological dad made sure that the bills were taken care of and that I had a place to stay; my biological mom, on the other hand did not. When I was with her, I lived in seven different environments because she would not keep the rent up. It got to the point to where if my baby-sitter that I had until my biological parents got a divorce did not take me in, I would be in foster care right now. When I was in this situation with my biological parents, I did not see myself making it through high school.

The church that I was going to at the time called my baby-sitter and explained to her the situation I was in and told her that if she did not take me then I would be headed to foster care. She went and talked to her husband and he said yes. She called the church back and said that she would take me. On February 18, 2009, the baby- sitter went to court and received permanent custody of me. Now that I am with her, I have achieved making it through the majority of high school. I am only nine weeks shy of graduating. My grades are honor roll or prinicipal's list where before they were in the C,D,F range. MNy attendance has been almost perfect the last five years, and I have been recognized more by different organizations because of my academic achievements. My greatest academic achievement started on February 18, 2009 when I was put into another environment that I could actually focus on being a kid again and not having to be the adult; I could also focus on school without having to worry about having to move constantly. If it was not for my adopted parents, I would not be looking forward to graduating high school, going to college, and making somebody of myself
