Where do you see yourself 10 years from now? How will your education help you get there? by Anjah - December 2015 Scholarship Essay

A look into the future, 10 years from now. December 1st, 2025. My wonderful family and I are preparing for Christmas. My husband is outside putting up the Christmas lights which I’ve been nagging him to do for the past two weeks. Our son Greyson who is 10 just got braces yesterday which he already is counting down the days to get them off. Our daughter Ava and Michael, twins who are 8, just got their eyes checked and turns out Ava needs glasses. They are outside building a snowman while I gather the tree decorations from the garage. Christmas is our favorite time of the year. This winter break we are surprising the kids with a vacation to Hawaii. When we get back they have another Christmas surprise, a puppy! They've been asking for a puppy for too long now. I am an ultra sound technician at the local pregnancy center. And I also do massages at a day spa on the side. I have a passion for babies and helping people which is why I love what I do.

The way I’m going to have this in my future is with an education. After I earn my massage therapist license I will get to working right away. The money I earn will help put me through school to becoming an ultra sound technician. Then I will be able to start my other career. Then on my way to creating our annual Christmas traditions that I so badly yearn for.

The only way I will achieve this life, the one I dream of is with the help of an education. Without an education none of this would be possible, I know from first hand experience growing up with parents who didn’t have an education. Growing up I didn’t have insurance to go to the dentist, or be able to get glasses if I needed them. I didn’t have a beautiful home, or Christmas traditions, or luxury vacations to Hawaii, or any vacation for that matter. And the only pet we had was a cat that ran away. Not having these things made me want so badly to go to school to get an education so I could obtain a good career that I love. This way I can give all of these things to my children. Thank you education for giving me the opportunity to someday have the life I’ve always dreamed of.
