The IB Programme by Aniyah - April 2019 Scholarship Essay
The IB Programme, also known as the International Baccalaureate Programme, was and is the most academically challenging thing that I have ever experienced. Most people are not familiar with the programme and therefore do not understand the intensity of it. It's a two-year program within a high school that serves to expand the learning of children to think on an international basis and not just based off of the country that they currently reside in. It is a programme that encourages its participants to receive higher learning. In simpler terms think of AP classes on crack.
The part about IB that was academically challenging was being pushed to think further than I have ever had to think before. Normal high school classes ask you what when IB classes ask you how and why. When you have been conditioned for 10 years to answer this one way and that this is what is expected out of you it's so hard to come out of that mindset and that's why IB was so hard, especially the first year. Trying to push ourselves out of the box to think instead of sitting down was one of the hardest things I've done in my life so far.
Although IB is an ongoing battle until I graduate I feel like I have overcome this obstacle at this point in the school year. We're at a point where we are now just focused on the tests and recalling all of the information that we have learned so far. I believe that what led to me getting over my challenges and struggles from these classes were listening and paying attention to how other people think and absorbing that information and practicing using those techniques so that when I'm ready to apply it I have multiples methods of getting to the correct conclusions.
