The Next Step by Anisah - August 2024 Scholarship Essay

The junior year of high school is when you can make a difference. If you have not done much over the years this is your chance but if you have, it is the year for you to improve and continue to build. Throughout my two years in high school, I have done my best. I have gotten perfect grades for all the classes that I have taken. I have delved into my passions and joined clubs that relate to those. I got into the National Honor Society and National Arts Honor Society. I got into a great summer program which helped me with my internship assignment and college explorations. Even though I am very proud of these accomplishments, I still know they fall short especially when I put them in terms of the college I would like to attend and my long-term goals.
As I am in my third year of high school, I would like to take rigorous classes. Over the years, I have been taking regular classes. Since my grades have shown that I can take a difficult class, I plan on joining honors classes or even AP classes. These classes are known for increasing proficiency and boosting GPAs. Taking these classes will make me more diligent and increase my knowledge too.
My second course of action is to run for leadership in the clubs that I am currently in. I am running for a position in Students Against Destructive Decisions, a club dear to me. Through this club, I have spread mental health awareness and advocated for the cause on many occasions. I plan to have power over the decisions of this club, grow it, and make an impact. I also plan on being the public coordinator for the Medical Minties, a club that contacts professionals and allows them to share their medical journey with students. This position will allow me to learn more about my desired field and increase my network circle.
Furthermore, my summer internship has shown me how interesting the professional circle is. I am applying to other organizations that may be open to hiring or interning with a high school junior. Through this job or assignment, I will learn soft skills that will be useful in the future. If I am lucky and it is a paid opportunity, I will earn some money too.
Speaking of money, most high school scholarships are open to Juniors. I am applying for scholarships I qualify for in hopes of winning them. This is quite obvious since I am applying for this scholarship. Winning this scholarship and the ones I apply to will reduce a huge burden for me and my family.
In a nutshell, my next big educational goal is to take rigorous classes, hold leadership positions, gain professional experience, and apply for scholarships and other competitions. These goals will inevitably factor into my college applications and make a strong foundation for my future career.
