A dinner with Donald Trump by Anh - October 2017 Scholarship Essay

If I could have dinner with one U.S. President, I would choose to dine with our current president: Donald Trump. Some people view Trump as a “villain” in a comic series and on the other hand, his supporters wholeheartedly agree with everything that he does. It would be an interesting experience to have a small talk over dinner with Mr Trump because I believe it will show who he really is as a person behind the media spotlight.
First of all, I would tell him about my background as an immigrant. He might not be a stranger to me but I am completely a stranger who is having dinner with the President of the United States. I want him to know my roots because immigration is Trump’s signature issue ever since he took office in November. It is crucial for our president to understand that America is not the land only for the wealthy class. America is also not the land of perfection. Coming from Vietnam, I wanted to have a chance to increase my knowledge about the world. I also wanted to expand my education to the next level so that I could help my family back home. It took a lot of efforts for so many people like me to leave their homeland and come to a strange place. President needs to understand that I am much more fortunate than other immigrants. It is all because of the dream to become successful, the dream to save their family from despair, America was the only solution. Since then, there were many cases of undocumented immigrants because the situation did not allow them to have an easy process. The fact that Trump administration has decided to end DACA, it left most of the students at the school that I’m currently enrolled in trembling in fear and anxiety. The fate of the future generations can completely be twisted in a negative direction is Trump really decided to deport all the undocumented immigrants in the United States. What about all the students who only want a fair chance to gain knowledge? What will happen to the fluctuation of the economy when a majority of the components in the economy will be wiped out?
Last but not least, when the dinner event is almost over, I would like to remind Mr Trump that this world truly needs compassion. People need to receive kindness, caring, and support when difficult times are ahead. Praising and congratulating is necessary, but the most important thing is that one needs to be able to relieve the sufferings of others before ourselves.
