The Fusion of Interests- A Pursuit of Sustainable Innovation by Angelique - April 2024 Scholarship Essay

My name is Angelique Agnant, a rising senior at the University of North Florida, navigating the challenging yet fascinating world of Civil Engineering and Computer Programming. As a proud Woman of Hispanic and Black heritage, my academic journey embodies dedication and resilience, driven by a fierce passion for sustainable infrastructure and technology.

The core motivation behind my academic pursuit lies in a globally relevant domain – the integration of technical knowledge with consciousness for sustainable living. My objective involves the fusion of Civil Engineering, Computer Programming, Environmental Science, and Management. I aspire to explore exciting opportunities that lie in this intersection, particularly in developing infrastructure that contributes positively to environmental conservation, is economical, and resilient to the ever-increasing climate change threats.

Overcoming each obstacle during my academic journey at Saint Johns River State College and the University of North Florida, further enhances my determination for success. A 2.78 GPA does not define my potential. Instead, it presents reflective challenges pushing me towards active learning, strategic approach and unwavering focus on my goals.

What keeps me focused? It is an unyielding resolve to use education as a catalyst to address societal disparities, specifically, racial inequities pertaining to infrastructure. By utilizing my comprehensive skillset, I aim to foster projects that consider both socio-economic and environmental factors, thereby striving for equitable resource distribution and community upliftment.

Awarded the Varsity Tutors College Scholarship, I plan to embark on immediate and long-term initiatives. At the University of North Florida, I aim to encourage a campus-wide discourse on sustainable infrastructure. Harnessing the diversity and creativity of its student body, I envision a collaborative platform, ideating and adopting sustainable measures for our campus. Long-term, I aspire to intertwine my multidisciplinary knowledge addressing infrastructural inequities and engendering sustainable solutions.

On a concluding note, my robust dedication towards my community, a deep sense of understanding in the realm of my studies and an unwavering resolve to overcome academic challenge characterizes my journey and aspirations. The Varsity Tutors College Scholarship would not only ameliorate my academic trajectory but also strengthen my endeavor to effectuate societal change through sustainable innovation. Every step I take towards my academic and professional goals echoes a commitment to serve, inspire, and change
