The Delicious Journey by Angelina - September 2018 Scholarship Essay

According to my elders, time moves like sand slipping through their fingers, often its said they don’t know where the time went. From my stand point, 25 years is an unimaginably long amount of time, I will be reaching the ripe age of 42, hopefully thoroughly experienced in the culinary arts and as a frequent traveler. As my senior year charges forward I am having to plan for my future and the thrilling feats I will take as soon as I graduate. I want educated on multiple culture’s cuisines and the many different ways food is prepared and presented. In 25 years I would like to be continuing to learn about the world’s palate and the extensive ways food is shared. I would like to start small by owning a food truck and traveling this great country, seeing all the states local cuisine while also introducing each state to my little slice of the south from my traveling truck. After this I aspire to grow outwards and travel to different countries seeing and experiencing the cultures food choices. Then to bring this knowledge back to the states and create a food truck that has the taste of the world in one all-encompassing moving restaurant.

As a 42 year old woman I’d like to have the varied palate of an 80 year old chef. I am thrilled to travel as soon as possible to achieve this goal. As an example I’d possibly like to start in Mexico, I would love to learn the different spice combination they use from most of their savory dishes. Each city has a unique way of preparing and seasoning their meats a making deliciously juicy cut each time. I would be thrilled to learn this practice of spiced meats. To experience this one of a kind way that food is prepared in every country that I visit is the dream. To expand and be able to create a meal that takes the ways of each culture and incorporate them together in the dishes I prepare. Europe has such a wide variety of culture that I cannot wait to experience. I plan to be work under and learn from skilled chefs in the most unique restaurant I can find in the area, to be taught their tricks of trade. I would like to reach out to chefs that would be willing to teach what they know to someone who plans to be a life learner, someone who enjoys discovering something new every day. In the future who knows what fresh new thing will come in to the culinary scene, who knows what will be the new ingredient that will be incorporated? Whatever it is I plan to learn about it in its entirety.

Traveling is the way I plan to learn and experience something new and fresh every day in the world of the culinary arts. No matter where you travel to, there is always something different about the cuisine to learn about. There will always be a new trick, a new way on how to execute a recipe, there will always be some fresh experimental method when it comes to food. 25 years is a long time, but there’s so much to learn I can’t wait to start on this delicious journey!
