The Awakening of your Imagination by Angelica - June 2018 Scholarship Essay

What if there was a required class in our education system that touched the core of every child´s imagination and sharpened their technological skills in this ever changing world of technology?
Look no further than Animation class.
This art elective has the potential to not only teach children the tech skills needed to create things in the animation software programs required, but also apply those technological skills into creating what their imagination can think of. Standard art class allows children to create with the use of basic amenities, such as paper, pencils, and crayons. Animation class takes this a step further and opens the gates for children of all ages to create essentially anything they can imagine, all while learning more about the world of technology. The skills children can learn through the use of animation programs include but are not limited to are: understanding how to use software programs, transferring things from one program to another, and learning how to transfer what their unique imagination can create onto a digital device that can show the people around them what they are capable of.
Animation can be a great tool for many children with different career interests. For example, artistic students can further express their imagination beyond a paper and a pencil, tech savvy children can assist those around them that are confused with how to use the programs and further expand their knowledge of technology, and students that are neither can possibly find that they have more potential than they previously thought they had in the Art field. Animation is very flexible in that anyone, regardless of how tech savvy or artistic they are, can succeed in the art of animation. One may start by creating a bouncing ball or one can create an entire episode of cartoon characters. Either way, students can succeed in this field and learn very useful skills.
Over time, more and more employers prefer employees with technical skills. Although this can be taught through the implementation of required computer science classes, animation class makes learning these skills more enjoyable to a larger group of students. If Animation class becomes a required class, our country will eventually have a large population of intelligent, innovative, creative citizens.
