My Zone by angela - May 2016 Scholarship Essay

The study method that has helped me study for my final exams the most is getting in my “zone”. I think that everyone has a different zone to study in. For some it is around friends in a coffee shop, and others its alone in there room with absolutely no noise. I think that this study method is followed by most students when studying for final exams. Each student chooses how they want to study. You know the students who meet every night in a group of 10 or more and study for a couple hours. And you know there are also students that meet in a group of 3-4 and study for 5 hours straight right before the exam. These different methods students put themselves in, are what I like to think of as their individual “zones”.
My zone is my best environment to be in to retain the most information and make my studying session the most beneficial. I describe my zone as quiet and alone. I like to be in somewhere other than my own house, so that I will not be easily distracted. I prefer a library or study room. And I mostly study for the entire day before the exam, and more. This environment is best for me because it allows me to put the most effort into my studying. I am not distracted, and I can really apply myself. Over the semester I have tried different studying methods because I wasn’t sure what was the best for me. I did study with friends a couple times, and even big groups of students that would get together, but none of these worked for me. I became distracted from my studying and found that I would end up having conversations not even pertaining to school. This was not beneficial to me. I found that when I am in what I like to call my “zone”, I am the most efficient. I know that each student prefers a particular study environment that is best for them. This is my most efficient studying method.
