Education Needs Help. by Angel - July 2022 Scholarship Essay
I hope education changes drastically over the next ten years. I wish education in high school focused more on the information needed in day-to-day life. Topics like taxes, money management, mental health, communication skills, decision-making, and others should be taught in school. I learned more useless information than helpful information in my high school years. I hope that the learning becomes more individual-focused. Students should be evaluated to understand their learning style and then be placed with a teacher who teaches in that style. I’ve dropped a class because some professors/teachers were unwilling to adapt their teaching style for me to learn effectively.
I hope the cost of education is eliminated. Many people want to attend school but don’t have the resources to pay for school, especially college. For instance, I still struggle to pay and find resources as I get my education. Resources like scholarships and grants are of great help. My tuition requires me to pay a boatload of money even after scholarships and grants. Tuition makes it challenging to focus on the education part of the school.
I hope that there is a better solution for understanding how smart someone is. I can receive excellent grades on all my work, although I go blank when it’s time to take a test. Many people experience this, and I believe there is another solution for knowing if students understand the information they were given. For example, students can make presentations on the information taught. That way, the teacher can evaluate if their students understand the material from their own words.
Lastly, I hope students have a more powerful voice over the next ten years. At college and universities, the students are the voice. Students are held in high positions to make campus life equal for all. Now for middle and high school, not so much. Middle and high school students are still young, and many can’t make critical decisions. If administrators guide students in making decisions about their life, it will set them up for success. Students will understand to speak up for themselves, learn how to make decisions, weigh the pros and cons, and not act off impulse.
In the next ten years, I hope education in middle and high school focuses on day-to-day subjects and have a more powerful voice in school. I hope all students understand their learning styles, administrators find a testing solution, and the government eliminates tuition.
