Pathway Towards a Future by Andrew - February 2021 Scholarship Essay

Every year, millions of high school students graduate and enroll in some type of college or university. Some of these institutions are two year and some are four year. Many of the students will stick it out and persevere. On the other hand, a fair amount of the same students will flunk out or drop out. However, those who decide to persevere, because it is something that requires immense perseverance, will have the world at their fingertips.

I, Andrew Schwab, am one of those millions of graduating high school students. College in my eyes is a chance to make a real impact on the world. This is particularly true in my case. I will be majoring in an environmental science-related field. Post graduation I plan to find a job where I can help fight back against climate change and reverse the effects of global warming. A college degree is a pathway to this goal of mine. Higher education is a stepping-stone towards the sweet fruits that life has to offer.

As far as success goes, to me it is happiness, fulfillment, and making a difference in the lives around me. To many others it is driving fancy sports cars or living in luxurious ocean-front estate. While all of these privileges are more than welcome to me, that is not success. Success is just being content, being fulfilled, and not having to worry about where the next meal is coming from. Along with a fantastic work ethic, college is one of the main ingredients needed in the recipe for success and happiness.
