Dinny with Kennedy by Andrew - October 2017 Scholarship Essay
If I could have dinner with any president, it would be with John F. Kennedy. We'd eat at the White House, being served by the official staff. I think I would have pepperoni pizza as my main meal, but I think he'd go for something fancier. Maybe lobster. I'd wash my food down with sparkling grape juice in a champagne glass, and then we'd get down to business.
There would be so many questions to ask him, mainly since he was such a charismatic president and led a lifestyle of wonder and awe. After all, he was the president to bring a sense of luxury to the White House. I would ask him what it felt like to be such a popular president, to have the support of so many people. I'd want to know how he felt about the Peace Corps launch, and then how he felt when he couldn't cut income tax or if he wishes he were quicker to support the civil rights cause at the time. I'd want to know the thinking behind all of his policies.
When dessert would arrive, which would most likely be lemon bars or an exquisite kind of cake, I'd want to know if he was ever scared. He had a nation and the world watching him, especially since he and his family led such a lavish lifestyle, so he must have always felt the need to look over his shoulder; assuming the role as head of a country always puts a target on you. If I had the chance to ask him about the days after his assassination, I would. If I could get the opinions from his spirit, I would. I'd really like to know how proud he is of his wife, Jackie Kennedy, for everything she did after his death. She's a role model, and so is he.
Aside from the political side of things, I'd end the conversation with advice he could offer. A man like him must have had all sorts of experiences and life lessons, so much wisdom to share. That's what I would like to know, from John. F. Kennedy.
