College by Andrew - November 2016 Scholarship Essay
There’s a lot of things that I will be thankful for in college. One major thing though would definitely be, becoming more independent. For example, right now my mom does my laundry, makes me food, buys me food, etc. Going to college will force me to start doing all of these things for myself which is great. Along with this, I will also be thankful for how college shows me to put a lot of work in an duo it to the best of my ability. My time management can also improve while I am in college because I won’t have anybody telling me I need to get something done, it will be up to me to remind myself.
I will need to try and find a job on campus or around campus where I can earn money to buy my own food. I am also pretty sure laundry isn’t free so I will also need some money to pay for that. Learning to do my own laundry will be essential to me during college. I need to stop relying on my mom to keep my clothes clean.
As I have heard from a lot of older friends and family, college is nothing like high school. They tell me it is a lot harder, there’s more work. Late work doesn’t exist either I’ve been told. With that being said, I am going to have to focus and work hard in all of my classes. Having to do this will help me out in the long run, no matter what field of work I go into after college, I am going to need the hard working tendencies to help me succeed at my job.
My time management right now is very questionable. I usually rely on teachers, parents or others to help me remember to do stuff when it is due. I tend to put things off and think I’ll have enough time to do it later but then it becomes later and it doesn’t get done. In college time management is key due to the fact that if your work isn’t done on time then you get a zero. This will help me later in life if I have a project due for my boss, if it were not to get done then I would risk the chance of getting fired which isn’t a situation I want to be in.
