My Role Model by Andrea - September 2013 Scholarship Essay
The moment my little sister walked down that aisle with her maroon and yellow cap and gown, with a look of nervousness and happiness all at the same time, I realized how proud I was. I was proud to say I was her sister and proud of all the achievements she had made. I saw her struggle and want to give up, but when times got rough she would always get back up on her feet and just keep kicking. She inspired to me to say I can do this. It was her that made me realize I too can have a better life and be proud of who I am as a person. I can achieve the same goals. She moved out on her own right after high school, went to college fulltime, worked full time, and still paid her bills. This is a strong woman. She didn't receive any help from her parents or grandparents; this was all her. Not to mention, this woman is the most caring person. She would lift the shirt off her back for someone if she had to. No matter what she was going through she still remained genuine and caring. Earning her associate's degree and going through nursing school she is now a nurse manager. The blood and tears she shed were all worth it. She is now married, buying a house, and trying to start her own family.I am now going to school fulltime to be a respiratory therapist. I cannot wait for my sister to see me walk down that aisle in the same maroon and yellow cap and have her be proud of me, her big sister. I will never forget that feeling I had when I saw her walk down that hall. I will always be able to say she is my role model.
