Reversing Roles by Anaya - October 2016 Scholarship Essay

Let’s face reality, school is one thing that we kids just can’t seem to circumvent. Those mornings when you just don’t want to leave the coziness and warmth of your big luscious bed are the times you really don’t want to attend school. I know I represent for the majority of the youth population when I speak on this. School isn’t all that fun, especially when you get the short end of the stick and acquire the strictest teacher in the school that believes in giving the maximum amount of homework. If the roles were reversed I’d make learning fun in that children would actually be exhilarated to wake up and go to school.
If I were to teach an academic subject I would most definitely teach science due to the fact that I am most passionate about it. Personally, I anticipate that the main reason youth don’t like going to school is that it is terribly boring. I know a lot of my peers do not like science, however, if I were to teach I’d make it my goal to ensure that every one of my students would learn to have a love for it. Throughout my school career I’ve had some of the driest teachers you could imagine. I know that it’s very hard to learn in an environment that isn’t attention-grabbing. I would make science so fun that kids would actually learn and look forward to coming to class. I love science so much that teaching would be enjoyable and when it is enjoyable for me it is most importantly enjoyable for students. Science has always been my preferred subject and teaching it would truly be a blast.
