Why I Collect Penguin Clothbound Classics by Analeigh - February 2025 Scholarship Essay

My love for English and reading is a part of me that started young. What began with
my mom reading to me before bed became me taking every moment I could before school to read my current book. As my reading expanded, so did my collection of books.

My shelves are overflowing with a variety of things spanning from classic literature to comic books. The most important books I own are my Penguin Clothbound Classics. I am in possession of twelve out of a large collection that I will eventually complete. Each one I read reminds me of the importance of preserving literature such as this for our future generations to consume.

Aside from my books, I have been fortunate enough to take both of the advanced
placement English classes at my high school, Language and Composition and Literature and Composition, which have only furthered my love of the subject. I have also taken a dual enrollment college course on young adult literature. These courses have challenged me to think more critically and deeply when reading narratives, as well as to produce stronger pieces of writing.

My passion for English has fueled my desire to gain both a masters degree and a
PhD in the subject. I love learning language and composition. This has enabled me to
explore the subject on a much deeper level that I will use to connect to my everyday life
and career as both a student and a designer in the film and theatre industries.
