The Perfect GPA by Ana - August 2022 Scholarship Essay
I am a student at Jefferson High School (JHS), as well as Willamette Career Academy (WCA). I spend the first half of my day at JHS, and then finish my day at WCA in the Health Services Program. An academic goal of mine for the upcoming school year is to maintain a 4.0 grade point average (GPA). This has been a goal of mine every school year since the sixth grade, and I have managed to achieve it every year so far. This goal is important to me because it will help me get into a good college, but achieving this goal requires a lot of time and effort. Sometimes this can get overwhelming, but I have developed a few skills that have helped me achieve this goal in the past that I plan on using again this year.
The first skill, and possibly the most important one, is organization. I like to have two main binders, one for each school, and they are separated by class. This ensures that I know where all of my papers are, and prevents me from misplacing them. I also like to organize my notes. I have notebooks for each class, and I write as neatly as possible. I take my notes during class, and then come back to them later to revise them. I also like to make to-do lists to help prioritize my schoolwork, which helps make sure that I get my work turned in on time. Staying organized is very satisfying to me, and it lessens the anxiety when trying to get work done.
Another very important skill is time management. On school nights I try to be in bed by a specific time because sleep is very important to help me stay focused and get the most out of my school day. Before I go to bed, I preplan my morning, and set my alarm accordingly which helps me to be on time for school. While I'm at school, I make sure to use any free time to get as much done as possible. After school, I make sure to get my homework done before any leisurely activities. I play volleyball in the fall, which has greatly contributed to my strength in time management. During volleyball season, it is vital to use any free time to get any school work done because I don't get much of it. Time management helps me keep a routine which also keeps me from feeling overwhelmed.
Mental health is extremely important to achieving any goal, and these skills have helped me maintain a positive mindset. Positivity keeps me motivated to continue working toward my goals. This school year I plan to continue using these skills to help reach my goal of a 4.0 GPA.
