Knowing what you know now, what is one piece of advice you'd share with younger students? by Ana - April 2016 Scholarship Essay

In today’s world young people benefit the most from being open to new things. Exploring the world gives you a broader picture of life. Even if sometimes it sounds scary to do things that are outside of your comfort zone, it is the only way to find what really interests you and what you really do not like. Exploring the world from different aspects helps you think differently.
I moved to United States four years ago to go to college. In fact, I had never been to United States before and I did not even speak English. First, it took me a couple of months of hesitation and thinking before I made my decision to study in the US. One day I woke up, packed a bag and left. My parents were terrified and so was I. However, it turned out to be the best decision in my life. I was able to explore different fields of education, learn the language, and most importantly I was forced to learn and adopt the new culture in order to succeed. It turned out to be lot of new things in my life coming from one single decision.
We make many decisions in our lives and we get many chances to try new things and adjust our life path accordingly; whether we take them or not is up to the individual. The more chances outside of your comfort zone you take the clearer the picture you will develop about what you really like. In addition and perhaps most importantly, experiences don’t have to be good to be valuable; sometimes we learn the most from the worst experiences. Thus, if we did not take a chance we would never learn.
