Roads? Where I'm going, I won't need roads... by An'drea - November 2018 Scholarship Essay

I have the slight advantage of having already picked and decided on what my senior quote shall be. I decided to go with "Roads? Where I'm going, I won't need roads", which was inspired by the last line of, one of my favorite Steven Spielberg movies and series, Back to the Future (1985), just before Dr. Emmett Brown, Marty McFly, McFly's girlfriend, Jennifer Parker, and Dr. Brown's dog, Einstein, in the time-traveling DeLorean. I chose this quote, not only because I've grown up watching this movie, but because I believe that this quote pertains to college and picking your own path and whom you'll want to be and grow up to be when you leave off for college. Many people will follow a path that they've either had planned for some time or a path that their parents or siblings have set for them and plan to follow them. But, I realized that I won't really be able to plan my future, even if I had a plan to a "t", I won't be able to know what's going to happen at all, and I have been trying to teach myself how to go with the flow cautiously. And symbolically, continuing with that logic, I interpreted this quote as representative of choosing my own path, thinking outside the box and able to fly above all the others and become my own person.
