Education System Truth by amyia - July 2022 Scholarship Essay
Education has always been a part of America for decades. Eventually, the education system became something that was required for every American to obtain. Some may say that education is equally distributed to everyone; I can confirm that this information is false. I live in a "ran down" neighborhood, and my high school is not seen as a good school. A lot of the students do not have enough income to afford essentials such as books, and pencils. Instead of helping students, the school will constantly insist on students coming to school prepared. Unfortunately, not everyone can "come prepared" instead of assisting the students, the administrators will write them up or give them "In-School Suspension".
Truthfully, education is one of the biggest flaws in America. As mentioned before, the school system is not fair to everyone. Another flaw that I have personally experienced with the school system is the pressure of GPA and ranking. To rank students based on their education levels is harmful to many teens. Initially, when I was not making the best grades, I was seen as incompetent. This is not fair for teenagers because, their ability to make an A, should not determine their IQ. There have been many articles and studies that outline teens committing suicide because of the pressure of GPA and ranking.
Hopefully, within the next ten years, the education system will make improvements. Students that attend public schools should receive the same amount of learning as someone who attends a private school. The location of your school should not affect whether or not you will learn this and not this. No one should have to worry about repercussions at school because you couldn't afford some of the essentials. Instead of belittling the students, schools should provide them with some essentials. The one that resonates with me the most is mental health issues. Mental health should be seen as a very serious issue, and if studies are showing that teens are harming themselves these issues need to be resolved immediately. No student should feel as though just because, they do not have a 3.5 GPA or higher that they are not smart. Or just because they are not within the top 10% of their class that they did not try hard enough. Within the next 10 years, I hope that these issues are seen more seriously, and kids can be happy to go to school again.
