Positive Impact by Amya - March 2023 Scholarship Essay

It's funny, my parents would ask me what I wanted to be when I grew up and I really didn't know. I mean, who knows while they are still trying to navigate the crazy high school years? I know some adults who still don't know what they want to do with their lives, but I do know what plans are set forward for me.

I was a freshman in highschool, playing volleyball (which is my career choice that I plan to play in college) and during the first match of my high school career, I went up for a swing and came down and landed one foot. This cause a tragic injury to my ACL. I thought my days of playing volleyball were over. I was only 14 years old and had to manage to find my way around the school on crutches, learn to rehab and still keep focus on the daunting classwork.

The days and weeks went by, but it wasn't until I started my rehab that I really learned what I wanted to do with my future and I owe that to the Athletic trainers at the school. This is who my positive impact person is and I couldn't be more blessed. The Atheltic trainer at the school really helped me rehab my way back to getting on the court, but it wasn't the physical side - it was the mental side. Athletic trainers are taught to help you heal physically, but mine helped me heal mentally. That is the tough part of the game.

The long talks and chats were need to get over the mind block. This is what helped me pass my test to play again and help me decide what I wanted to do with my future. I want to attend school to be an Athletic trainer and come back to my High school where I can work with the youth in my community. I want to be the person that helps someone not only physically but mentally too. My Athletic trainer has helped me in more ways than she will ever know and I want to pay it forward.
