My whole life I have been motivated and passionate in everything I set my mind to do.

I grew up as a swimmer, every day of every summer was spent at the pool. I always knew when I grew up I wanted to be a lifeguard, I admired their bravery and strength. However, when I turned 16 and was finally able to become certified, the thought of being responsible for someone's life made me apprehensive and reluctant to take the job. I spent sleepless nights pondering whether I had enough courage and bravery like all the people had before me. Could I really save a life? I never let these nerves stop me, I began to realize the only way was to use them as motivation. I had to be the best lifeguard I could be. I worked so hard that by the end of my training I had memorized every save and procedure and could perform them all perfectly. I worked hard and overcame my fear, and I saved 2 little girls the following summer.

I intend to pursue a career in performing arts, something people have told me for years was unachievable. But, I will not allow this to deter me. I will always work hard for what I care about, and this is what gives me hope. My determination, work ethic, and resilience that I have employed throughout my life gives me the confidence that I will be successful in reaching my goals.
