Restoring the American Dream by amber - February 2020 Scholarship Essay

Many people today struggle with poverty. Among these, worries frequently flood their mind such as where will their next meal come from, where are we going to sleep that night or even how can they have enough money to survive? For the people, like myself, who are fortunate enough to not have these worries, I feel I should all help out in anyway to provide these people with basic amenities and show them a taste of the American dream. If I were to start a nonprofit organization, I would create an all inclusive assistance center that would provide a kitchen that makes three meals a day, housing/child care and training/job placement programs.
First, food is a necessity that no one can live without. Though, there are some people who can barely afford one meal a day. That is why I would have a kitchen that would make free, nutritious meals everyday. This would relieve the stress of not knowing where their next meal would come from or spending all their money just to provide their kids with food for that day. Another amenity I would incorporate, is the free child care and housing. For the families who can not afford a home or never know if they have a shelter to sleep under, this will further alleviate stress. By accommodating this, it will also prevent illnesses stemming from the harsh and unpredictable weather conditions. The free child care will not only allow parents to relax, it will also allow time for them to work on things that will help them get back on their feet and make a living. For example, the training and placement programs provide step-by-step help on how to get back into working and apply for a job. The first step is the training program. This program will lay out a number of volunteers with an array of different careers. Whichever career a person is interested in; they will be given the opportunity to shadow such a job. Working will not only give people the experience to place on their resume, but also give incite as to whether that is a job they would like to pursue. Lastly, once they have found a job that interests them, they will work on the placement portion. This portion will give thorough instruction on how to fill out an application, as well as, how to dress and act in a job interview setting.
I believe all people deserve to have their basic needs met without worry, while also pursuing something they enjoy to do. Everyone has to start from the bottom to work their way to success; some just climb the ladder a little bit faster. I feel that as a person who had a good financial upbringing, I would like to give back to the people who need it most and help them climb the ladder to happiness and success.
