Time Management for College Success by Amber - September 2014 Scholarship Essay

In my opinion, the most important skill that will lead me to success in college is time management. Granted there are many other skills that are quite important to college success, but I think this one is the most crucial.

Everyone has the chance and opportunity to go to college and make something of their life, but once they get accepted to a school it depends on how well they spend their time working at their future. Life is all about balance, particularly in college. Students are thrown with a ton of papers to write and projects to complete, but balancing the work load is the key to success. Everyone can write an essay and turn it in, but if a student has multiple papers to complete and have certain due dates, then this can be challenging. Thus, time management is a big deal and should be taken seriously.

Not only do college students have a work load to balance and make time for, but they may also have a job. Every college student wants and needs extra money to pay for groceries, housing, transportation, and other personal expenses. Trying to hold down a job while attending college can create stress and cause students to fall behind. Students should prepare themselves for this and make sure there is still plenty of time to study and ensure that academics come first.
Including all of this, college students still have to manage time for other activities like joining one of the multiple clubs, or maybe a sport if qualified. This is an impeccable way for students to meet new friends and interact with different people, since students will have some free time during the year. College isn’t all about academics; students need to have fun as well. Participating in activities is a spectacular way for students to enjoy college, and feel like they are a part of something. However, being in clubs can keep students distracted and rather busy. This can lead to less interaction with studying and staying focused on why they are really in college; which is to develop their future. Again, time management is very important to balance and should not be taken lightly.

I believe time management is necessary, and is an extremely important skill to obtain in order to be successful in college. Besides completing assignments on time and efficiently, there are plenty of distractions such as a job and joining extra activities. These can all cause stress and put additional pressure on students; therefore students need to stay organized and use time management wisely.
