What is your intended college major and why? by Amber - February 2013 Scholarship Essay
"I hate my job, why didn't I do something with my life when I had the chance?" is the most used line I have heard from people in their thirties and older. I have heard it from my family and family friends. I have even heard strangers say it. After I have seen how miserable their lives are, I decided to follow my dream and become a wildlife and landscape photographer.
I want to major in photography because I have been taking pictures ever since I was a little girl. If I saw a strange tree, I would take multiple pictures of it. I have had a camera in my hands ever since I was able to hold one. As I became older, photography turned into a stress reliever. I was always too focused on trying to get the perfect picture than worry about my problems.
Photography as transformed my life. It was the first thing I felt I was actually good at. I felt like I had a special talent that only a few people received and that is the "eye for photography". After finding I had the photography talent, I decided I wanted to take pictures that would inspire people. I want people to look at my pictures and see that there is real beauty in the world because the news is always focusing on the bad.
I want to be able to take pictures of endangered animals and to have people see how beautiful the animals are and maybe they will do something to help. I want to take pictures of Africa and the African people so others will realize that Africa is not just full of poverty and Aids. I want people to look at my pictures and look away with a new understand of life. I do not have to know they what they understood, but I want to know that they were transformed.
This scholarship would be able to help me fulfill my dream as a wildlife and landscape photographer. I would help me inspire people. I would be very thankful if I won because I would use to money toward schooling, which would help me become a photographer and to help show people the try beauty in nature and the world.
