What College Means to Me by Amber - June 2013 Scholarship Essay
Attending college to me means a brighter future. It means being in debt, but starting down a career path I would enjoy for the rest of my life. It also means becoming a young adult with resposibility and a little independence. Responsibility is key because I do not have my parents near me when I am at school, so my decisions are my own. I am responsible for groceries, getting my work done, talking to professors when needed, and time management with school, work, and social life. Independence is key because I am far enough away where I feel I am my own person and close enough where if there is an emergency I can take control and my parents can come out if needed. Attending college is a way for us to start being an adult while still having parents if we need help. It also is a way for us as students to learn and understand time management and responsibility before entering our career path. Time management is helpful so we can find a balance and not feel overwhelmed. I hold a work study job through my college so I try to get my work done, work, but also find time to hang out with friends so I can still have fun. I joined organizations on campus with friends just so I had more time to hang out with friends, but I can also get involved with other people on campus and get myself out there and not hide. College allows me to explore options for future career paths in case Education and Psychology are not the right career choice for me but also time to interact with others if we are unsure of career choice. Attending a college or University means a future a career so we can find a better paying job, but also responsibility.
