What Does College Mean to Me? by Amara - February 2021 Scholarship Essay
My goal is to attend a four-year university and major in Neuroscience. My greatest desire is to explore the field of Neuroscience because I am drawn to the field most by my passion for learning more about the brain as well as learning about the vast world of health and medicine. I want to better understand how the interdisciplinary field of Neuroscience can be incorporated into the fields of public health in terms of finding cures for neurological diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and Huntington’s. Understanding the interconnectedness of both subjects will give me an appreciation for the modern world. I recognize that my studies will reach far beyond the classroom to enhance research, support in finding cures for diseases, and saving the lives of people around the world.
Attending college is important to me because it is the prerequisite to acquiring the skills that I need to be successful in my future desired profession. Today, more than ever, a college education is the basic necessity to being able to succeed in a highly competitive, global economy. Going to college is a wonderful opportunity that anyone should have because it can shape anyone into becoming a successful person in life because of all of the amazing career opportunities offered for undergraduate and graduate students. The need for a college education is critically important especially since our economy is constantly changing and it affects everyone socially. There are many people around the world that do not have access to a college education, and as a senior in high school, I am beyond fortunate to have the opportunity to continue furthering my education and go to school to receive the education that I need to be successful in my future.
I believe that success is what a person makes of their future. Success is being able to accomplish the impossible and believing that a person can do anything they please to do. To me, I define success as going through multiple trials and errors to be able to get to your goal. There really is no clear path to success for anyone because the path to success is not a straightforward journey. I know that I will face setbacks on my path to success but I am determined to keep going so that I can make an impact on my family generation and for future generations to come.
