Historical Dinner by Amanda - February 2016 Scholarship Essay

If I had to choose a historical figure from any era to share dinner with, I would choose Jesus Christ. I would love to have a first-hand account and understanding of what it would have been like to live during the most talked about, well known, time period in the history of existence. The biblical age is so incomprehensibly different than what today’s time is, so I would certainly ask questions about His thoughts on today’s society and if He felt we, as a whole, were living a lifestyle that would reflect what God had desired for the world.
For believers, we read in the Bible about the trials and tribulations that Christ experienced to save us from eternal damnation. At this fictitious dinner, I would want to know how He felt during his time on earth, knowing that He was sent to the world for one ultimate purpose: to save every person from His time going forward. I would want to hear parables that could relate to how the world operates now. I would also be curious to know what His stand was on the ongoing religious persecutions that are happening in our world today (and throughout the course of history).
I think that I would feel an overwhelming sense of love and comfort while also feeling somewhat frightened knowing that I was sitting in front of someone so unfathomably perfect. I would pray, asking for direction and guidance, to be the person God intended for me to be. The time spent at this dinner would be both eye opening and personal. I truly believe that it would give me a glimpse of what is to come.
