Mechanical Physics Puts the Motion in My Ocean by Amanda - April 2013 Scholarship Essay

Mechanical Physics, or Physics I in the academic setting, is by far my favorite subject. This field of science is dedicated to the study of the relationships between matter and force. This subject can be further divided into kinematics, the study of the motion of matter; dynamics, the study of the effect of force on matter; and statics, the study of matter in equilibrium, both resting or moving at a constant velocity, under the influence of force. The theories defined by these divisions of mechanical physics allow us to study and understand the movement of matter within our universe. I took this course as a high school student and I found it very easy to apply these theories to objects all around me. This really fascinated me and only further sparked my interest in the subject. I felt that mechanical physics was a great union of science and mathematics, my favorite topics. The inspiration gained from this subject carried into my adult studies. My love for physics helped lead me into my current career path; Nuclear Medicine Technology. This field is dependent on a good understanding of energy at an atomic level. Although mechanical physics is not used to describe the movement of microscopic matter, my strong foundation in understanding mechanical physics only further prepared me for Nuclear Medicine.
