The Inspiring Chirps: My Drive Towards a Heard Future by Amanda - April 2024 Scholarship Essay
Life has a beautiful way of unfurling meaning in moments and instances that most regard as mundane. For me, the chirping of birds, a sound which remained elusive to me in my younger years, have now become a source of inspiration propelling me towards my academic and professional aspirations in healthcare. As a committed student at Nova Southeastern University, every chirp I hear now echoes my core motivation and impetus - to ensure that every child can revel in the audible beauty of our world, just as I can today.
This motivation originates from my own experience with hearing loss. Remembering the silent mornings of my childhood, devoid of birdsong, I have chosen to channel my past struggles into a future shrouded in hope and perseverance. As an up-and-coming graduate for the second year, I am ardently pursuing healthcare studies, especially focusing on audiology. My personal journey is my beacon, guiding and motivating me to help children who are facing similar circumstances as I did.
Much like the joy I derive from hearing birds sing, nothing compares to the rewards that clinic hours offer. Seeing a child's face light up when they hear clearly, perhaps for the first time, and hearing the relief laced in the parents' feedback, strongly reaffirms my career choice. These moments, unambiguously, breathe life into my motivation, reinforcing my belief in dedicating my future to bringing sound and joy into these children’s lives.
But motivation, no matter how strong, is hollow without focus and unwavering dedication. My journey in the field of healthcare is underpinned by a commitment to learning and a constant quest for knowledge. I believe this practice acknowledges the fact that my profession is not only based on textbooks and lectures but heavily depends on direct interaction and relationships with people.
In the end, receiving a scholarship from the esteemed Varsity Tutors College would be a phenomenal opportunity to accelerate my journey. It would not only lighten the financial burden but also allow me to channel more focus toward perfecting my craft. Winning this scholarship would allow me to transform the chirping of birds from a personal euphoria to a shared joy, experienced by every child I am able to help.
As a white woman advancing through unprecedented times, I am determined to use my personal and academic experiences to bridge the hearing gap among children. I am not just a healthcare student, but a hopeful individual who strongly resonate with the prophetic words of Helen Keller, "Although the world is full of suffering, it is full also of the overcoming of it." Therefore, I am motivated to put my best foot forward in overcoming the adversity of hearing loss and look forward to a future where all children will hear the birds chirp as I do now. Because, in truth, every child deserves to dance to the music of life, uninterrupted and unimpeded.
